Our Relationship and Marriage Counselling sessions
Relationship and marriage counselling is a finely tuned combination of science and art. Your counsellor needs to be empathetic and unbiased so that each of you feel that he/she is really listening and hearing you, without taking sides.
Also, he/she needs to have a broad and comprehensive understanding of what type of dynamics can be operating in any and every relationship, and combined with experience in dealing with almost every relationship situation.
Then he/she needs to be able to communicate all this to you in a manner that you feel that he/she understands you, and can assist you in a positive direction toward your relationship goals, and then keep you on track as you make progress.
Our Approach to Couples Counselling and Marriage Counselling
Your first step is in deciding as a couple to do something positive about your relationship, and to be open to new understandings and trying new things. The earlier you can make this choice, the simpler the process is, however we have helped many couples rebuild their relationship even at the point of imminent divorce.
When we have heard and understood what the issues are for each of you, we give you new insights or ways of seeing what has been happening between you.
Another important part of our process is not only finding and understanding your core problems, but then being able to translate them into your positive want list, and agreeing to an action plan. This positive focus from this point on is one of the secrets of our success. We have you working in the positives and with what you are both wanting as much as possible, rather than the complaining and critical mode that is most common when your relationship is in trouble.
As you progress, good will, and a deeper understanding between you and your partner grow, along with mutual appreciation, and you are gradually back into a positive spiral again.
